Sam, of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, is a single mum with a six-year-old daughter. After losing her job in the retail industry she discovered searching for work on her own was tough. She was unemployed for 12 months before discovering the Jet project.
Said Sam:
I lost my job in a high street fashion store 12 months ago and I tried really hard to get another job – I went for interviews but people said I didn’t have the right experience. I have a daughter and my own house and being on benefits just doesn’t cover everything. I’m independent and I wanted to take my daughter on holiday, but without a job I couldn’t do that.
I heard about Jet through my SureStart group. Jet were brilliant - they helped me with my CV and filling in applications and helped me to find the job at TK Maxx, which I’m hoping will become permanent. I am £90 a week better off now and I still get help with my childcare too.
