News > New Jet course makes retail ‘just the job’
Posted on 21 May 2010
A Biddulph-based scheme to help unemployed people get back into work is launching an innovative new course to give local people a head start in securing work in the retail sector.
Biddulph Jet has developed a special ‘Ready for Retail’ course to give people who want to work in local stores or have their eye on working in the new Sainsbury’s supermarket, a qualification which could put them at the front of the queue for employment.
The five-week course will give training in customer service, stock rotation and control, health and safety and general retail skills. Successful learners will be awarded a City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Retail.
Explained Biddulph Jet manager, Jo Elward: “We are launching this new course to give local people the best possible chance of securing work when Sainsbury’s begins recruiting, and to give them the skills and confidence to go for other retail positions that may be available in the town.
“This could be the ideal course for people who have been out of work for some time but are keen to find new opportunities.
“It’ll be a friendly, informal course and will really give people the edge with a recognised qualification to their name. We’ll also be helping with advice on form filling, CV writing and preparing for work.
“Jet’s aim is to support people as much as we can to get back into work – so if anyone who wants to attend the course needs help with childcare or travel costs, we can help there too.”
The first Ready for Retail course begins in early June. It runs for five weeks (2 ½ days per week) at The Bric, St John’s Road, Biddulph. Demand for this course is expected to be high, so to find out more, or register your interest call Tracy on 01782 829911.
Jet also runs weekly sessions at The Bric. Call the Jet team on to make an appointment. For more information on the Jet scheme and jobs currently available across the area visit www.jet2work.org.uk.
