News > Join the green team – 100 new jobs on offer as city helps residents switch to solar power
Posted on 23 August 2011
One hundred new jobs are being created as Stoke-on-Trent rises to the challenge of creating a greener city.
This will bring major opportunities for city residents to train and gain employment to assist in reaching the target of fitting solar panels to 3,000 properties in the Potteries.
JET (Jobs, Enterprise and Training) has been asked to recruit the 100 strong workforce for Stoke-on-Trent City Council and its partners E.ON and Kier Stoke.
The new workers will be trained by Kier in practical and management roles to assist with the installation.
The “on the job” style training will enable successful applicants to earn while they learn and provide them with new skills which will greatly improve their future job prospects.
JET has opened a jobs line for people who wish to apply for the roles - to talk to a JET adviser telephone 01782 231215.
Set up in 2009 by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, JET has helped hundreds of people get back into work or to find jobs for the first time.
The service works with both people needing a job and employers to provide a complete recruitment package for residents of Stoke-on-Trent and the wider North Staffordshire conurbation.
The city council is helping residents to fit solar panels as part of its recently unveiled Mandate for Change.
