News > Jet Amongst others' recognised for employment work
Posted on 19 October 2011
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been awarded “Matrix” accreditation for its efforts in helping people get into work.
The authority’s Employment and Skills Service has received “Matrix” accreditation in full for all of its services - Learn4work apprenticeships, JETs and Adult Learning.
Learn4work is a work-based training provider, delivering specialist training programmes and qualifications across a range of different work-based learning opportunities from entry level to NVQ3.
JET is an innovative scheme that helps unemployed people find training and employment. It helps people start up their own business, and offers a free, comprehensive recruitment service to local employers.
The Adult Learning team offer a diverse range of courses across the City, which helps people to develop their interests, skills and employability.
The Matrix standard is awarded to training providers, universities, colleges, schools and academies, voluntary and community organisations and private businesses.
It shows where organisations excel on delivering information, advice and guidance on learning and work. It also makes sure organisations review, evaluate and develop their service, encourage the take up of professionally recognised qualifications and the development of their staff.
Councillor Mark Meredith, cabinet member for economic development, said: “As part of our Mandate for Change we are both committed and determined to create new jobs in Stoke-on-Trent. Part of doing that is helping people gain both the skills and confidence to get into employment. That creates a skilled and eager workforce that existing and new businesses can tap into.
“Being accredited with the Matrix standard shows that we are heading in the right direction when it comes to training people, increasing their skills base and getting them into employment.”
David Allan, Managing Director at emqc Ltd, who operate the accreditation on behalf of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, said: “This Matrix accreditation is another example of how the standard is proving effective for all types of organisations, helping them to provide a more professional service offering and to strive to be the best in their sector.”
