keeping North Staffordshire staffed

News > Euro fund fuels JET rocket

Posted on 20 January 2011

Pioneering work carried out by JET has been recognised by the European Parliament and now, thanks to its groundbreaking work and many achievements, JET and its delivery partners are to receive an impressive £1.4m of funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

This substantial figure will enable the JET programme to continue to help beat worklessness in Stoke-on-Trent and so aid the City’s regeneration. Commented Kerry Parry, JET manager:

“It’s allowing us to carry on with what we’ve been doing for the last two years and build on those many achievements – most notably getting 1500 long-term unemployed people into work. ERDF funding secures our future and secures a better future for the people of Stoke-on-Trent.

“We are offering the unemployed people of North Staffs a co-ordinated approach to help them find work and increase their skills.”

The ERDF funds, made available until 2013, will help to support a number of innovative projects planned for across the city and North Staffordshire. Kerry added: “We are delighted to have several partners on board with us to deliver our programme.”

Partners involved in the scheme are:-

PM Training

This project will engage 16 – 18 year olds currently not in employment, education or training in the Newcastle area onto training in areas such as construction, painting, decorating, tiling and brickwork with the aim of moving them into apprenticeships.

Adult Social Care health and community Service

Here funding will support various recruitment and training initiatives to look at changes within the care industry and ensure that the 6,000 current care staff in the city receive the appropriate training to meet demands of the future.

Staffordshire Moorlands CVS – Volunteering programme

Staffordshire Moorlands CVS will provide volunteer opportunities for residents of North Staffordshire who are currently out of work. Specific areas where levels of unemployment are high will be targeted.

University hospital North Staffs – Into Work Programme

The ERDF funding will allow the hospital to provide taster sessions and work experience placements.

Family Employment Initiative

This support will help the FEI to continue offering training and employment support to the residents of Newcastle under Lyme and surrounding areas.
